GRASS AUTOTEST – 21st AUGUST

Our fifth Grass Autotest of the year took place on Sunday 21st August, with a good turnout of 19 entries at our first event at The Fell in a few years, with the kind permission of the Marshall family. Winner on the day was Rab Henderson, finishing just 0.99 seconds ahead of Thomas McCarney (who was also first Senior), and Richard Dickson, with Karen McCarney taking 4th & first Lady. Niall Cowan Jnr was Top Novice.

MEMBERS IN ACTION

Tyneside Stages (7th August): Joe McKeand and Charlotte McDowall ventured across to the Otterburn Ranges for the Tyneside Stages, finishing 7th Overall in the Subaru Impreza.

WRC Rally Finland (4th-7th August): It was a disappointingly quick rally for Elliot Edmondson and driver Oliver Solberg, as they rolled their Hyundai i20 N Rally1 on the first stage of Friday’s opening leg, with the damage being too severe to be fixed for a re-start.

Grampian Rally (13th August): The Scottish Rally Championship headed north for the final time this year with the Grampian Rally based to the west of Aberdeen in Banchory. Just like the Scottish, the top club finisher was Drew Sturrock, who finished 8th Overall co-driving for Hugh Brunton in the eye-catching Ford Fiesta R5.

Despite a scare with a bridge parapet, Mark McCulloch & Michael Hendry finished 11th in the Proton Satria Evo, with Angus Lawrie & Paul Gribben finishing 32 seconds further back in 12th overall in the ALM Mitsubishi Lancer Evo 9, and they also took the Top Challenger award in the Scottish Rally Championship.

Jamie Edwards was 17th in the Fiesta Rally2 back alongside Bob Adamson, and Peter Stewart & Harry Marchbank were the first Scottish Front Wheel Drive home in 18th. Dad Richard Stewart & Carin Tait-Logan finished 38th in the sister car.

Keith Riddick & Mairi Riddick were 25th and 1st in Class in the MG ZR, with Robert Proudlock and Steven Brown finishing 31st in the Vauxhall Adam Cup Car. They now have one hand on the Scottish Junior title, which they hope to wrap up at our ‘home’ event in Galloway next month.

Scott ‘The Captain’ Peacock and Craig Wallace finished 35th in the MG ZR in what might be their last outing in the MG…

Jock Armstrong and Cammy Fair had another disappointing day as their car said ‘no more’ after SS3 with some sort of overheating issue, while they were lying in 10th (4th SRC). Hopefully we will see everyone out in 4 weeks’ time at the Armstrong Galloway Hills Rally.

WRC Rally Belgium (19th-21st August): Putting their disappointment in Finland 2 weeks ago behind them, Elliot Edmondson and driver Oliver Solberg finished a fantastic  4th overall in their Hyundai i20 N Rally1. Elliot’s Dad – Committee Member, Allan – was present – perhaps this lucky charm should attend all the events?

Grab Life by the Hall’s Stages @ Kames (21st August): George Myatt came out of semi-retirement to co-drive for Junior driver Ollie Forrester on his first event, finishing 7th out of the 11 finishers in the J1000 section for 14-17 year old drivers. Owen Paterson, who was co-driving for Stephen Hunter in the Honda Civic in the ‘Adult’ section of the event, retired after 12 of the 16 stages with Gearbox issues. Well done to our friends at East Ayrshire for achieving a capacity entry yet again.

Rainworth Skoda Stages (28th August): Alan Edwards was co-driving for Tony Cawthorne in a Peugeot 205 GTI at the East Yorkshire event, and they finished 50th.

Well done, everyone!
