BACKGROUND

The Autoshop.co.uk MG3 Rally Challenge will be run by Competitors for Competitors, and the aim is to create a true one-make rally series where budget becomes less of an issue, and the onus is on driving ability but also enjoyment.

MG3 Rally Challenge Co-ordinator Mark McCulloch said: “The organising team hopes to introduce something where competitors can come together to enjoy their rallying in equal cars and in a friendly environment with close competition and great camaraderie. As a group we feel this is something which is sometimes lacking in our sport today. Since it debuted on the stages in 2021 in the hands of our series founder Niall Cowan Snr, the MG3 has so far proved very reliable and great fun to drive for all competitors, whether in the hands of a 20-year old just starting our, or a seasoned competitor in their 70s! The cars have been built to be strong and safe, and with the modern chassis everyone who has driven them so far has commented on how stable and well they handle.”

Consisting of seven rounds, the mixed surface championship will kick-off with two tarmac Single Venues before heading into the forests for five gravel events. The thought behind this is that the MG3 Rally Challenge hopes to attract not just seasoned competitors, but newcomers and crews graduating from Junior Rallying, therefore starting the season with two SVs will hopefully allow crews to gain experience of the MG3 on a more familiar style of event and surface, before moving onto both Gravel and Route Notes for what could potentially be the first time.

To match the ethos of the Challenge, the MG3 is a reliable and competitive class car, which can be bought and run within a sensible budget. A brief specification of the MG3 Challenge car is:

▪ MG3 donor Vehicle, 2013 onwards
▪ Standard 1400cc K-Series engine with MG3 Challenge ECU
▪ Close ratio Gearbox with Limited Slip Differential
▪ Coilover Dampers
▪ Control Tyres for tarmac & gravel
