Event Report

Our first and second Tarmac Autotests of the year took place on Sunday 2nd April, with 12 entries, returning to The Range with the kind permission of the MOD.

Event 1 – the morning test was a flowing, open test at Silverhill.

Class 1 (under 1400cc FWD): Grant Carson was the winner in the Nissan Sunny, followed by Thomas McCarney who dropped a bit of time with a costly stall on test 5 in his new tarmac Micra which he was sharing with debutant Matthew Coupland, who also finished 3rd in class and top Novice. Peter Game rounded off the class.

Class 2 (over 1400cc FWD): Debuting his new tarmac charger, reigning club champion Rab Henderson won the class in a C2, ahead of the Nissan Micra of Richard Dickson and Nancy Dickson. Hal Renwick had to retire his Mini after just two tests due to mechanical issues.

Class 4 (over 1400cc RWD): It must be quite annoying to offer to share your car with someone and then have them beat you… 😉 Mark McCulloch was first in class in the Riddick Mazda, with Keith Riddick 2nd. Next was Drew McLean in 3rd, and thanks to his sportsmanship, Craig Smith was able to finish the Morning Autotests; completing half the tests in his own Mazda, and half in Drew’s!

Well done to our morning winner, Mark McCulloch, finishing 15 seconds ahead of Keith Riddick, with Rab Henderson another 2seconds back. First Lady was Nancy Dickson, with Matthew Coupland taking Top Novice.

Event 2 – the afternoon test was a more technical test at the Tank Graveyard.

Class 1 (under 1400cc FWD): Thomas McCarney was the top performer in class 1, finishing ahead of the Nissan Sunny of Grant Carson and Peter Game. Matthew Coupland finished 4th in class and top Novice.

Class 2 (over 1400cc FWD): As in the morning, Rab Henderson won the class in a C2, ahead of the Nissan Micra of Richard Dickson and Nancy Dickson.

Class 4 (over 1400cc RWD): Mark McCulloch was first in class in the Mazda MX5, ahead of Drew McLean and Keith Riddick.

Well done to our afternoon winner, Rab Henderson, finishing just ahead of Mark McCulloch, with Thomas McCarney in 3rd by just 0.72seconds. First Lady was Nancy Dickson, with Matthew Coupland taking Top Novice.

Thanks go to the MOD again for the venue, to Mark & Keith for Organising, Norman & Glen for timing and results, the Girls for Marshalling, and all who helped on the day.
