AGM – 9TH FEBRUARY
Thanks to everyone who attended the AGM in the Kings Arms. There were no major changes proposed on the night; therefore, memberships will remaind at £10 per person (and £5 for every additional person living at the same address, and Juniors) and Entry Fees will stay at £15. Thanks to Scott Peacock for his work as Chairman over the last 3 years. The Chair and Vice Chairman for 2022/2023 will be Kirsty Riddick and Mark McCulloch.
12 CAR RALLY – 23RD FEBRUARY
4 Entries (2 Expert and 2 Semi-Expert). The Captain and Keith Riddick picked up where they left 2021, winning the Expert section (28 penalties) ahead of Rab Henderson & Peter Game who had bravely(?) stepped up from Semi-Expert for the first time. (Honestly boys, it gets easier…!)
12 Car success continues for the Dickson/Alcorn pairing, this time in the combination of Nancy & Greg, finishing on 22 penalties and first Semi-Expert, ahead of first-time pairing Rebekah Russell & Mairi Riddick (31 penalties).
Thank you to Michael & Isobel Riddick for organising, the Gowans Family for the start venue, and everyone who came out on the night to marshal. Extra thanks to David White for rescuing Izzy who suffered a puncture on the way to her second control.
MEMBERS IN ACTION
Riponian Stages (6th February): Long-time member Jamie Edwards, co-driving for Charlie Payne in the Ford Fiesta Rally2, finished 4th Overall after a trouble-free day. Jan Budge & Bruce Lindsay finished 22nd in their Subaru Impreza, hampered slightly by a nominal time on SS2, and finishing 30th of the 50 finishers was Paul Gribben, co-driving for Chris Lawson in the ex-Angus Lawrie Vauxhall Corsa.
East African Safari Classic Rally (10th-18th February): the 10th running of this mammoth event for two-wheel drive rally cars built before 1985, was contested over 8 legs spread over 9 days. The route from Naivasha to Watamu covered a total of 2,171 miles across Kenya – of which the 24 stages made up 1,139 miles of that. (For context – that’s the same as completing our own Armstrong Galloway Hills Rally almost 26 times!) Club Member Drew Sturrock, together with his driver, the multiple Kenyan Rally Champion Baldev Chager, were victors in a Porsche 911; winning by only 7 minutes, after 16 hours and 40 minutes of competition. Fantastic!
Kinloss Stages (12th February): First event in the driver’s seat for Robert Proudlock, and it was clear from the offset that he has his father’s talent. A great drive from start to finish taking the class win by 3mins in his Vauxhall Adam. One to watch for the future.
Snetterton Stages (19th February): Andy Scott & Laura Connell had a busy weekend on the 19th/20th February, first competing in the Snetterton Stages, where they brought their Albatec Racing Ford Fiesta S2000T home in 3rd Overall. After a 400+ mile overnight drive from Norfolk to Fife, the team were ready for the Knockhill Stages on Sunday, the opening round of the Scottish Tarmac Championship. Unfortunately, a mistake on SS3 (of ten) dropped them 6 minutes, but by setting fastest stages time on the final 6 stages of the day they managed to claw back up from somewhere near last to 7th Overall in the end. Roscoe West, who was co-driving for Cameron Williamson in a Subaru Impreza, finished 17th Overall & 5th in Class.
East Riding Stages (27th February): In the inaugural running of this Closed Road event near Hull in East Yorkshire, Paul Gribben, co-driving for Chris Lawson in a Vauxhall Corsa, finished 65th Overall / 6th in Class. The ‘Sloan Twins’ Scott & David were back out in action for the first time since 2019. After a run of bad luck, they were aiming to “get round and have fun with the sport we love” and they did just that, bringing their Peugeot 208 R2 home in 69th Overall, just a couple of places ahead of Bruce Lindsay, driving his Ford Fiesta ‘Fezbomb’, who finished 72nd / 7th in Class.
Rally Sweden (25th-27th February): And competing on the snowy roads of Sweden, the home event in the WRC for his driver Oliver Solberg, was Elliot Edmondson. The duo had negotiated their Hyundai i20 N Rally1 quickly through the snow banks on Friday to be just a handful of seconds off the rally lead, before slipping down to finish 6th by the end of Day 3 on Sunday.
